Alek Wroblewski’s dancing run into the penalty box led to a Churchill takedown, giving a crucial penalty to the Patriots. Francis Meyer stepped up to the spot and delivered a crushing strike into the back of the net, the only goal in an extremely hard fought game by both teams.
Churchill presented a tall challenge, with an extremely skillful team that also has size and speed to burn. Wootton struggled in the opening 10 minutes, and probably was fortunate not to yield an early goal. The Patriots got their legs under them after that, and turned the tide, leading to the go-ahead goal at about the 20-minute mark. Thereafter, both teams had great chances, and Matthew Kopsidas made several outstanding saves to keep Churchill at bay, including a special save in the last few minutes of the game!
