The Patriots traveled into DC to take on the reigning District Champions, Woodrow Wilson HS. WW scored first to take the lead, and generally controlled play for much of the first half. However, with the clock ticking down, a quick Greg Garcia throw-in sprung Andy Ram on a run through the heart of the defense, culminating with Andy’s measured strike to slide the ball past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net. With one second remaining in the half, the game was all tied up!
The second half saw Wootton slowly gain control of the game, though neither team was able to crack the other’s defense for the winning goal. Heading for overtime, the Patriots looked to be the stronger team, but were denied the opportunity by the Wilson Athletic Director, who determined that the game would not proceed to overtime, since (in his words) the match was a “non-league” game.
