Wootton Varsity loses tight match at 3 to 4 away at Whitman. What a match! Whitman won the first two team points when sophomore Daniel Zhang lost at singles 2 and junior captain Nick Huynh lost at singles 3. Then our freshman doubles 2 team of Mikey Fellman and Ryan Meyer won our first team point with a 6-2, 6-2 win. They were followed by our doubles 3 team with senior captain Justin Slud and senior Eric Feng winning in three sets, so they won our second team point, making the score 2 to 2. The last three courts were in their third set and TWO went to third set tiebreakers – just to keep the suspense going! Senior captain Andy Xiao and sophomore Simon Huynh had come back from a 0-5 score to WIN the second set and were in a close third set – but lost at 4-6. So the team score was 2-3. Senior captain Joseph Brailovsky was locked in a battle for the third set at singles 1 and sophomore Alex Yeh had brought his third set back from a deficit of 0-5 to win 6 straight games and force a tiebreaker at singles 4. Alex Yeh lost in a very close tiebreaker. Senior captain Brailovsky never lost his focus and finished with a win at singles 1 in a great match. That made the ending score 3 – 4. We will beat them in counties!
