Wootton Varsity Tennis defeats BCC 4 – 3. Wootton won the closest match of the season thanks to our three doubles teams and a great win by singles 4 sophomore Alex Yeh at the end of the match. Senior captain and singles 1 player Joseph Brailovsky was not feeling well, but played for the team and lost in an uncharacteristic match against a very good opponent. The rest of the team stepped it up – but it was a tough match. Sophomore singles 2 player Daniel Zhang was still recovering from his illness and had a great second set but lost – and this made it 0-2 for BCC. Senior captain Andy Xiao and sophomore Simon Huynh got a solid win at doubles 1 at 6-0, 6-3 and brought in our first team point. Our freshmen doubles 2 team of Mikey Fellman and Ryan Meyer won the first set in a tiebreaker, and then only gave up one game for the second set to tie the team score. Senior captain Justin Slud and senior Eric Feng played a great match at doubles 3 and brought in our third team point, making it 3-2 for us. Junior captain Nick Huynh was still playing at singles 3, and sophomore Alex Yeh was still playing at singles 4. Alex won the first set easily at 6-0 and we thought we had it in the bag. Nick was also playing well, but ended up with a very close two set loss – with tied the team score. Everything was riding on Alex at singles 4. His opponent played well in the second set and was in the lead when the singles 3 court finished and tied the team score at 3-3. Alex stepped it up for the team and the match kept going back and forth, resulting in a tiebreaker for the second set. Alex stayed focused and won the tiebreaker 7-1, so he ended up winning in two sets and bringing in the winning point for our team! We stand at 9 wins and 0 losses going into our match against Whitman on Monday. We need everyone to stay healthy and come in strong on Monday! Go Patriots!
