The Wootton Patriots JV baseball team beat a well-coached Damascus Hornets today by a score of 13 to 3. Jackson Brunner was on the mound for the Patriots and pitched a solid 5 innings; spreading out 6 hits, striking out 4, and allowing 2 earned runs. The Patriots were led offensively by Brady Weiss and Rob Carpenter who had 3 and two hits respectively, and both had 1 RBI. The Patriots were also able to steal five bases in the game to keep constant pressure on the Hornets. This led to the Patriots starting the scoring in the second inning by plating four runs, followed by one run in the third inning, two in the fourth, three in the fifth, and three in the sixth. The Patriots defense was able to weather a rally by Damascus in the fifth inning where the Hornets were able to score three runs and left the bases loaded in the inning. The team was able to respond to this threat by the Hornets by scoring three runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth inning with key walks and timely hits from Hank Breen and Liam Miller. The inning also had a crucial sacrifice fly by Dason Miller. The game was closed out on the hill by Rob Carpenter who pitched a scoreless 6th inning. The Patriots look to keep their winning ways going tomorrow with their first road challenge of the year against Churchill at 3:45 pm.
