The Thomas S. Wootton Junior Varsity baseball team took late lead in the game and defeated a very solid Quince Orchard team by a score of 9-8 on Wednesday. The game, led by Quince Orchard throughout, was tied at eight with the Patriots batting in the top of the seventh inning with two outs when a wild pitch allowed Devon Graham to score the go ahead run and eventual game winning run for the Patriots. In the game, the Patriots collected seven hits, led by George Misovec going 3 for 4, and Quince Orchard had 11 in the high-scoring affair. The Patriots scored one run in the first, which was quickly answered by QO when they score two in the bottom half of the frame. Quince Orchard also scored two more runs in the third inning and one in the fourth to take a 5 to 1. The Patriots quickly responded with three runs in the fifth inning which was led by a 2 RBI triple by Hank Breen. Quince Orchard scored three runs in the sixth inning to extend their lead to 8 to 4 going into the Patriots last at bat. In the seventh, the Patriots were led by some key walks, a clutch hit, and timely base running to score the 5 runs that were culminated by Devon Graham scoring. Robert Carpenter was on the pitcher’s mound for the Patriots. He pitched five and a third innings, allowing eight hits and seven runs while striking out five and walking one. The game was won by Brady Weiss who pitched the final one and two-thirds inning, giving up three hits, striking out one and giving up one run. Most importantly, Weiss pitched a clean bottom of the seventh inning to lock down the Patriots sixth win of the season. The Patriots look to continue their winning ways on Friday as they travel to Gaithersburg to play the Trojans at 3:15pm.
