The Thomas S. Wootton JV baseball team earned a tough, hard-fought win against a well coach Richard Montgomery team by a score of 6-5. An exciting walk-off single propelled the JV team to the decisive, dramatic score in their last at bat. The game was tied at five with Patriots batting in the bottom of the sixth when Max Levine singled on a 1-1 count and two outs, scoring Andrew Misovec from third base.
The win was earned despite the Patriots allowing Richard Montgomery to score three unearned runs in the fifth inning, breaking the 2-2 tie between the two teams. The Patriots were able to quickly respond by pushing across two runs in the bottom half of the inning to bring the game back within reach and facilitating the last inning heroics..
Richard Montgomery opened up the scoring in the first inning, when their starting pitcher doubled on the first pitch of his at bat, scoring one run from second base. After that, the Patriots starting pitcher, Jacob Glazier, settled down and pitched four solid innings; surrendering two runs, striking out four and walking one.
Darren Chang led the Patriots with two hits in four at bats. The Patriots also stayed active on the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases and Miller Romm led the way with three. In addition to getting the game winning hit, Max Levine earned the win on the mound by pitching the final two inning of the game; allowing 2 hits and walking one.
Overall, the Patriots were able to persevere and earn a tough win against a solid Richard Montgomery team and hope to continue their winning ways at home this Friday against Magruder High School at 3:45pm.
