Game Recap

Though night in D.C. for the Lady Patriots who couldn’t quite find their rhythm or overcome the number of fast players on the home team’s side. A second half goal by Rebecca Y. off an assist by Katie B. drew the visitors closer, but never really threatened St. Johns. The girls look to rebound Thursday night against Churchill in their season home opener.

Game Recap

Another tightly contested game for the Patriots. It was a very even game with Wootton controlling possession in the first half. The second half was back and forth until Northwest capitalized on a fast break to make it 1-0 with 10 mins left to play. Wootton fought hard to tie the game, but unfortunately could not get the equalizer before Northwest was awarded a penalty stroke in the last 30 seconds of the game.

Meet Recap

The Patriots beat Whitman at home in a close match! As always the Wootton-Whitman match was a long one – 4 hours – and a close one. Annie Dong started her match at Singles one and her opponent dislocated her shoulder on her first serve. The warm up looked like it would be a great match, but Annie’s opponent had to default due to injury and the Wootton trainer, Patrick Darnley, arrived to wrap up the shoulder and send the family to the ER for further treatment. Singles 2 Ellie Esterowitz played a very experienced senior and beat her decisively in an excellently played match. Doubles 1 team Lena Ware and Capt. Winnie Liang won decisively and quickly against another experienced team – bringing in Wootton’s 3rd point of the match. Doubles 2 Capt. Amanda Merkin and Michelle Badalov lost to a steady Whitman team, and that left Singles 3 Capt. Angela Wu, Singles 4 Capt. Claire Chen, and Doubles 3 team of Sydnie Haendler and Irene Yang to try to bring home the winning point. Capt. Claire Chen used her savvy and experience to finish first of the three and brought home the winning point in two sets! She played a focused match for the team! Sydnie and Irene came back in the second set, but ultimately lost, and Angela Wu played a great and competitive match, going to three sets, but also was not victorious…today. We now know who we will face in counties, so this was a great experience for all the players – and a tough win! Congrats to the team!
