Wootton defeated Whitman 15-5 in a back-and-forth affair on Saturday. The game was tied when Hannah Johnston drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth. The Patriots took the win despite allowing Whitman to score four runs in the fifth inning. The Viking’s big inning was driven by a single by Margaret Oleynik, a double by K. Eichman, and a pair of errors by the Patriots.
The Patriots rallied in the sixth inning, scoring eight runs. Wootton’s big inning was driven by a double by Meredith White, a double by Doris Chang, a fielder’s choice by Hannah Johnston, a single by Molly Brown, a walk by Crystal Bridge, and a double by White.
White earned the win for the Patriots, tossing six innings, surrendering five runs, five hits, and striking out five. A. DiCarlo took the loss for the Vikings, going five innings and allowing 15 runs, 12 hits, and striking out four.
Wootton had 12 hits in the game, with two hits each by Johnston, Shannon Roberts, White, and Bridge.
