This weekend we had our first competition. There were many great performances but I would like to highlight a few from each of our event groups.
- This was the first indoor competition for our throwers and they all were able to attend. Zan Husain and Eric Zhang both threw over 20 feet and will continue to work with Coach Portes with the goal of getting over 30 feet by January. (Girls results have not been posted yet)
- For our distance runners almost every athlete ran a life time best in the mile but four runners stand out in particular. Barrie Brodsky ran 6:35 which is a 12 second PR . Scott Sritharan ran his first sub 5:40 mile and set a HUGE PR of 5:33. Zach Blackman and Marc Laibstain both ran their first sub 6 minute miles with times of 5:42 and 5:57 respectively.
- This was the first indoor experience for many of our sprinters but their were so huge races to highlight. Keith Cartwright and Ambrose Devine both broke 40 seconds in the 300, which is a time that will likely qualify them both for the regional championships. Tafari Martin ran massive personal bests in both the 55 and the 300 and in what was arguably the most exciting race of the day for Wootton Sam Yi ran 1:16 in the 500.
- On the girls side for our sprinters Ana Scherf ran top times in both the 55m and the 300m. There were several exciting performances from new runners including Grace Osman, Angel Porter, and Mia Waller. On Tuesday we will see the girls lead by captains Shireen Chavoshi and Midori Smith in the relays.
